How a Testing Trip Works
A fertility testing trip to Colombia can be completed in as few as 2–3 days:
- Day 1: Arrive, initial consultation with reproductive endocrinologist, bloodwork (AMH, FSH, estradiol, thyroid, hormonal panel for male partner), semen analysis.
- Day 2: Transvaginal ultrasound (AFC), HSG if scheduled (timing depends on menstrual cycle — Day 6–11 is ideal), results review for blood tests.
- Day 3: Comprehensive results consultation — your specialist walks through every number and what it means for your options. Written report provided for your records.
HSG timing matters
The HSG (tubal patency test) must be done between Day 6 and Day 11 of your menstrual cycle — after your period ends but before ovulation. Plan your trip around this window, or skip the HSG on the first trip and schedule it during a subsequent visit. All other tests can be done at any point in the cycle.
Why Test Abroad?
Know your numbers before committing to treatment
Many patients consider IVF abroad but hesitate without knowing their baseline fertility status. A diagnostic trip removes that uncertainty — you'll know your AMH, FSH, AFC, and tubal status before deciding whether to pursue treatment, where, and which protocol makes sense.
Establish a relationship with your clinic
Meeting your doctor, seeing the clinic, and experiencing the city firsthand builds confidence for a treatment cycle. Many patients who come for testing return for IVF 1–3 months later — already comfortable with their clinic and their specialist.
Combine with a short vacation
Testing appointments take 2–3 hours total across your visit. The rest of the time is yours. A 4–5 day trip gives you a complete fertility workup and a few days to explore Colombia — coffee tours, restaurants, museum visits, neighborhoods. The total cost (flights + accommodation + testing) often comes in under the cost of the testing alone in the US.
Bring results from home if you have them
If you've already had some tests done domestically, bring the results. A Colombian fertility specialist can review them and order only the missing tests — making your trip even shorter and more targeted. Recent results (within 6 months) for AMH and semen analysis are typically still valid.
Get Your Numbers
A quick trip to Colombia can give you a complete fertility workup at a fraction of US cost — and a clear picture of your options.
